6 As the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, 7 So that nothing is wanting to you in any grace, waiting for the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ. 8 Who also will confirm you unto the end without crime, in the day of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
6 But that you may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then said he to the man sick of palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go into thy house. 7 And he arose, and went into his house. 8 And the multitude seeing it, feared, and glorified God that gave such power to men.
Today we are presented with the man sick of the palsy lying in a bed. This man symbolically represents every sinner.
It is interesting to note that "Jesus, seeing their faith . . ." heals the man of his sins. It was not the faith of the man who was sick but it was the faith of those who brought the man to Jesus. We see how necessary it is for us to enlist the help of our fellow men when we are in need of God's help. This man received this special grace of God because of the faith of his friends even though he himself appears to have very little faith.
When Christ tells the man that his sins are forgiven we hear nothing of him thanking God for the wonderful gift that he had received. He appears to be just as worldly minded as the scribes who doubted Jesus.
The man's sins were forgiven him because of the faith of those who brought him before Jesus; his body is healed because of the lack of faith of those who witnessed this miracle.
The first miracle _ the forgiveness of sins _ is obviously the greater miracle, but it is doubted or lightly esteemed in the eyes of men. The second miracle _ the healing of the man's body _ is obviously the lesser miracle but is the one most noted by men. "And the multitude, seeing it, feared, and glorified God that gave such power to men."
We must note that God heals the soul first. As such we see that many of our physical disorders are brought about by the unseen spiritual disorders within us. In order to cure the body it is first necessary to cure the soul. As long as we remain in sin we are sick and there is no amount of pharmaceuticals that can cure us. The cure to many of our physical ailments must begin with the cure of our souls. To try and ignore the illness of the soul will only lead to further complications in the body and a worsening of the situation of the soul.
The bed that the man was lying on symbolizes the man's sins. He was brought in lying in his bed of sin. The bed is a place of rest, comfort and joy. As long as man looks for his happiness in worldly things his bed becomes heavier and heavier with the weight of his sins. And this bed weighted down with the man's sins becomes a burden to him. This bed that he thought was to be the source of his worldly pleasures now has become his cross. The man was commanded to get up and take up the bed and go into his house. Even though he is now free from his sins and is healed both in body and soul he must still carry the burden of these sins that he has accumulated.
St. Gregory tells us: "In Sacred Scripture, bed or pallet, and also couch sometimes stand for pleasures of the body, sometimes for the refreshment of good works, sometimes for rest in the ordinary sense. For what is meant in the Gospel when the Lord says to a certain man who was healed: Arise, take up thy bed and go into thy house but that by the bed pleasure of body is signified? And he is commanded to bear as a healthy man, that on which he had lain as a sick one; for every own who still delights in sin, lies sick in the pleasure of his flesh. But now healed he bears that upon which he had lain sick, because raised from his sins by divine assistance, he must afterwards bear with the assaults of that flesh in whose desires he had before found rest."
The crimes of the sinner continue to torment and tempt him even long after he has repented of them. Though this is a fair and just punishment for our sins it is one that is often not correctly understood. We must bear this burden as a just punishment for our sins and to further humble us. We must fully understand that we are not free from our sins by our own efforts but, only because of God's mercy towards us. We must constantly be reminded of our own weakness to prevent us from becoming proud. We must be reminded of our past to prevent us from proudly and vainly placing ourselves above anyone else.
When we see what we have been and the crimes that we have committed against both God and man, we are much less likely to despise our fellow men, no matter how terrible they may appear. "There but for the grace of God go I." This was the sentiment of St. Francis who once declared that he was more guilty than the criminal going to his execution. His idea is simple enough, If that man had received all the graces that I have received he would probably have put them to better use than I have done. And if I had been in that man's position I would probably have sinned worse than he.
Let us learn from this sick man, to obtain the intercessory prayers of our friends so that God may heal us both in soul and body. Let us go to the priest that God has given His power to and have our sins forgiven first so that our bodies may then recover their health also.

They were searching for ibuprofen. Headache pills!

MORRISVILLE, N.C. - Morrisville police have charged a man with assault on a government official after an officer said the man coughed into his face during a traffic stop.
Officer Chris Gill said in his report that Kent Kauffman looked into his eyes before "hacking" in his face three times, according to Morrisville spokeswoman Stacie Galloway. Kauffman said he did cough from the window of his minivan but did so toward Gill's waist.
"He says I coughed in his face," Kauffman said. "But that would only work if he had a 4-foot-long face."
Kauffman said he developed a cough after his dog died last week. He said Gill put him in handcuffs and threw him into the side of the patrol car.
Gill pulled Kauffman over Tuesday for not wearing a seat belt. He now faces a misdemeanor charge and, if convicted, could spend up to 60 days in jail.

- Israeli government officials have stopped issuing re-entry visas routinely for Christian clerics and religious working in the Palestinian territories, the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation reports.
Breaking with a policy that allowed religious ministers to travel freely in and out of the Palestinian territories, Israeli officials are now requiring Arab clerics to obtain re-entry visas each time they travel abroad.
Because the process of obtaining a new visa can take several weeks, the new policy puts severe restrictions on the ministers' ability to travel. The policy weighs heavily on those who travel frequently to church offices in Jerusalem, or who wish to visit relatives in neighboring countries.
Early in 2004 the Israeli government broke a 50-year precedent by declining to renew visas allowing Catholic priests and religious to live and work in the Holy Land. The policy caused serious difficulties for many mission workers, who suddenly found themselves facing illegal status. After several months of complaints by Church officials, the problem was resolved in September 2004, and at a meeting with Cardinal Angelo Sodano (bio - news), then the Vatican Secretary of State, Israeli interior minister Avraham Poraz announced that the visas would be renewed.
You never hear things like this reported in the mainstream media or on the fundamentalist radio and TV broadcasts!

Catholic hospitals to follow Plan B law
1 hour, 19 minutes ago
HARTFORD, Conn. -
Roman Catholic bishops have agreed to let hospital personnel give emergency contraception to all rape victims, reversing their decision days before a new state law requires it.
The church had fought the state law by arguing it would force Catholic medical personnel to perform chemical abortions because they may be providing emergency contraception to women who are ovulating. The Catholic hospitals wanted to first perform ovulation tests, but lawmakers did not include such tests in the legislation.
The bishops now say that administering the drug, sold as Plan B, cannot be judged as an abortion.
Plan B is a high dose of a drug found in many regular birth-control pills. Its maker, Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc., got approval last year to sell the drug over-the-counter.
Plan B can lower the risk of pregnancy by up to 89 percent if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. The drug works by stopping ovulation and has no effect on an existing pregnancy.
Several states have enacted laws to improve rape survivors' access to the medication in hospital emergency rooms; some states also have laws that protect pharmacy employees who refuse to sell the contraceptive for reasons of conscience.
THANK GOD FOR OUR HOLY BISHOPS WHO WOULD NEVER CONDONE THIS!!

US sniper units in Iraq have been given weapons and detonation wire to be used as bait (File photo). (Reuters: Desmond Boylan)
Audio: Allegations US soldiers set killing trap (AM)
Three US soldiers have been charged with premeditated murder for engaging in a baiting practice allegedly ordered by the US military in Iraq.
Snipers were allegedly ordered to kill Iraqis who fell for the trap, in which ammunition and explosives were planted on the street.
The three soldiers facing court are also accused of planting weapons on the Iraqis they killed.
Defence lawyers and the soldiers' families say the men were simply following orders.
The court martial, being held at a US army base in Baghdad, is unlikely to help the Pentagon's efforts to win and the hearts and minds of war weary Iraqis.
Army specialist Jorge Sandoval appeared before a military judge overnight, accused of the premeditated murder of two Iraqi men and then trying to cover-up the shootings by planting weapons on the bodies.
He is one of three army snipers at the centre of a brewing controversy over a new tactic allegedly being used to kill insurgents.
It has been revealed that the Pentagon's secretive asymmetrical warfare group has been providing sniper units in Iraq with items such as weapons and detonation wire to be used as bait.
In a sworn statement to the court martial, Captain Matthew Didier, the leader of one the sniper units, says his men were told to shoot anybody who picked up the items.
The weapons were also to be placed on the bodies of those killed.
The accused soldiers all say the killings were authorised by their superiors but the Pentagon is refusing to confirm or deny whether the 'baiting' policy exists...
Wanna bet not a single officer is ever charged?
For crying out loud - many states outlaw the baiting of deer for hunting purposes - claiming it is an unethical practice!
Notice also the double talk - the article states that it has been revealed that the Pentagon is providing units with weapons and ammo for bait - but then a few paragraphs later - it says that the Pentagon is refusing to confirm or deny the baiting policy!
We need to run the Zionists out of our nation - starting with the bogus "christian" fundamentalist organizations!
U.S. Nuclear Weapons Being “Guarded” by Israel
Publication time: 26 September 2007, 10:27
American supporters of Israel were delighted to learn that an Israeli company, Magal Security Systems-owned in part by the government of Israel-is in charge of security for the most sensitive nuclear power and weapons storage facilities in the United States.
The largest perimeter security company in the world, Magal started out as a division of Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI)-which was owned in part by the government of Israel. In recent years, however, Magal evolved into a publicly-traded company, although IAI (and thus the government of Israel) still holds a substantial share in the highly successful firm.
What all of this means is that the government of Israel will actually have control over the security of America's nuclear weapons...
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Monday afternoon met with a group of Jewish rabbis who gave him a silver grail as a sign of friendship. The president is currently in New York to address the United Nations General Assembly.
The rabbis carried a placard which read, "I am Jewish not a Zionist." A senior rabbi of the group said that they considered the visit to New York of President Ahmadinejad as an exceptional opportunity and would never forget it.
He referred to the Iranian president as a person who made a distinction between Jews and Zionists.
"You understand us and make a distinction between the violent behavior of Zionists and the religious beliefs of Jews," said the senior rabbi who called President Ahmadinejad "a pious man who is seeking to restore peace in the world and has humanitarian plans."
Appreciating the rabbis for their gift, President Ahmadinejad said he was happy to visit them....-

From the "Annals of Modern Depravity" comes this sordid story:
Shouting, "This is YouTube material!" a 27-year-old British man urinated on a dying woman who had collapsed on the street, the BBC and local Hartepool Mail and Northern Echo tell us. He also doused her with a bucket of water and covered her with shaving cream.
The woman, 50-year-old Christine Lakinski, died at the scene of pancreatic failure.
In a sad sign of the times, it was all recorded on a mobile phone.
In court, Anthony Anderson said he had smoked a joint and been drinking with two friends when they spotted Lakinski. He faces jail after pleading guilty to "outraging public decency." Sentencing is set for Oct. 22.
"We will await the outcome and just hope he gets what he deserves," Lakinski's brother said after today's court hearing.

Israel seeks exemption from atomic rules
By GEORGE JAHN, Associated Press Writer Tue Sep 25, 3:08 PM ET
VIENNA, Austria - Israel is looking to a U.S.-India nuclear deal to expand its own ties to suppliers, quietly lobbying for an exemption to non-proliferation rules so it can legally import atomic material, according to documents made available Tuesday to The Associated Press.
The move is sure to raise concerns among Arab nations already considering their neighbor the region's atomic arms threat. Israel has never publicly acknowledged having nuclear weapons but is generally considered to possess them.... (it is a known fact that Israel possesses nuclear weapons - but the jewish controlled media here will not acknowledge it)

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Columbia University in New York on Monday resulted in one clear loser: Israel. (too bad, so sad)
In his speech, Ahmadinejad took aim at Israel. If he managed to convince one person of his views on Israel and Zionism, then he has already gained. If he managed to persuade 50, then he has gained even more. (and the Zionists ought to know - they are experts at this)
For months, Israel worked fervently to prevent what happened on the podium Monday. For the duration of his speech, Ahmadinejad produced a televised illusion: It is not Iran versus the world, but Iran versus Israel. (for decades the Zionist controlled media had produced the televised illusion that it is the entire Arab world against Israel)
If he manages to convince enough people of this, the mirage could become reality and Israel would be isolated, and that is exactly what Ahmadinejad is trying to accomplish. (in other words - Israel is afraid that the illusion and mirage that they have created in America may be shattered by the truths which Ahamadinejad stated)
The visiting Iranian even berated his listeners for condemning him before they had given him a chance to speak. He patiently explained that their behavior was impolite. He went on to offer a thorough explanation of his Holocaust denial. All he wanted was to promote research in the field, he said. How could an enlightened university that supports freedom of expression oppose that?
(It was beyond impolite - i give Ahamadinejad credit for not losing his temper after the way he was introduced - these college campuses have had communists, homosexual perverts, etc... speak and never have the introduced any of them like this)
The protesters outside only served to reinforce his claims, as many were Jews wearing skullcaps who carried signs protesting his Holocaust denial and calls to wipe Israel off the map. To many, this serves as further proof that Iran is only a problem for Israel, or at most for the Jews. (ZIONISTS are the only ones with a problem - jew or not - and they still repeat the same tired lie - Ahamadinejad never said Israel should be wiped off the map)
Ahmadinejad aimed precisely for that. "It's the Israelis, stupid" was his primary message. Forget about the "Palestinian problem," Ahmadinejad was telling his listeners. "Instead, we need to solve the Israeli problem - and finally bring peace to the Middle East." While he did not explicitly reiterate his calls for Israel's destruction, in practice, the message could not have been clearer. (no - the message is to force Israel to live by international law or face the consequences)
The pro-Israel camp consoled itself with the knowledge that those who are familiar with the regional complexities, and with Tehran's antics, will surely realize the absurdity of Ahmadinejad's proposal. (translation - those who we brainwashed will not believe anything other than what we tell them to believe - especially those stupid fundamentalist "christians")
But the average American is not familiar with the regional complexities. He is tired of the region's fighting. To him, Ahmadinejad's idea may sound tempting. (the set up - see it? - in other words, according to the Zionists, and necessarily the media in the USA - anyone who agrees with anything that Ahamadinejad says - is not familiar with the regional complexities - in other words - is an idiot)

Organizers of San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair -- sponsored by Miller Brewing Co. -- have portrayed Christ and his disciples as half-naked homosexual sadomasochists in the event's promotional advertisement, and the conservative group Concerned Women for America is complaining about the hypocrisy of it.
"The bread and wine representing Christ's broken body and lifegiving blood are replaced with sadomasochistic sex toys in this twisted version of Da Vinci's The Last Supper," CWA said on its Web site."'Gay' activists disingenuously call Christians 'haters' and 'homophobes' for honoring the Bible, but then lash out in this hateful manner toward the very people they accuse," said said Matt Barber, CWA's policy director for cultural issues.
"In their version of The Last Supper, Christ, Who gave His life for our sins, is despicably replaced by sin itself as the object of worship." CWA is calling on California politicians -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sens. Feinstein and Boxer among them -- to "publicly condemn this unprovoked attack against Christ and His followers. "We further challenge the media to cover this affront to Christianity with the same vigor as recent stories about cartoon depictions of Mohammed and other items offensive to the Muslim community,"
CWA said. The Folsom Street Fair describes itself as "the world's largest leather event.""We hope to see the fairgrounds filled with people in their most outrageous leather/rubber/fetish attire enjoying the worlds largest and best loved Leather fair," the Web site says.Concerned Women for America called it "shocking and offensive" that California taxpayers are forced to foot part of the bill for the Folsom Street Fair. The City of San Francisco sanctions the event by shutting down several city blocks and providing police for security. The Folsom Street Fair Web site says young people are welcome: "While we don't have any age restrictions at the gates we do inform attendees of the adult oriented nature of our events." The fair organizers say beer and liquor age restrictions are strictly enforced.

Microbes that cause salmonella came back from spaceflight even more virulent and dangerous in an experiment aboard the US space shuttle Atlantis, according to a study published on Monday.
The experiment by microbiologists at Arizona State University sent tubes with salmonella bacteria on a shuttle flight in September 2006 to measure how space flight might affect disease-causing microbes.
The salmonella sample that travelled millions of kilometers (miles) in orbit changed their pattern of certain genes compared to identical bacteria back on Earth, said the study in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Following the shuttle flight, studies using mice showed the salmonella bacteria aboard the shuttle were "almost three times as likely to cause disease when compared with control bacteria grown on the ground," said a university statement outlining the study.
After about three weeks, 40 percent of mice fed the salmonella from Earth were still alive while only 10 percent of those given the bacteria from space survived, according to the study.
The professors who carried out the research, Cheryl Nickerson and lead author James Wilson, said the results of the research could help advance understanding of salmonella and other infectious diseases -- in space and on Earth -- possibly paving the way for development of new treatments.
Salmonella and other related bacterial pathogens are a leading cause of food-borne illness and
infectious disease, particularly in developing countries. No vaccine exists for salmonella and it has become increasingly resistant to antibiotic treatment, the study said.
The research revealed the key role of a regulatory protein, Hfq, which could be responsible for the enhanced virulence of the microbes after space flight, the authors said. The finding could shed light on how cells act on Earth.
The study also examined the morphology of the bacteria during space flight and found changes that indicate the formation of a biofilm, which was not observed in the samples grown on Earth. Biofilms are associated with increased virulence of bacteria.
The scientists plan to carry out more experiments on the same theme possibly on space shuttle flights in 2008.
Lets see, is the research to find new cures for disease - or a new breed of biological weapon?
Last i heard Iraq and Iran have not sent any microbes into space!
Australian mom sues doctor over twins
Tue Sep 18, 3:57 AM ET
CANBERRA, Australia - An Australian woman who gave birth to twins instead of a single baby after undergoing in-vitro fertilization has sued her doctor for the cost of bringing up the second child.
The woman, who cannot be identified because of a court order, is seeking $329,000 to cover the expense of raising one child until age 21.
Testifying in the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory on Tuesday, the 40-year-old mother said she told her doctor that she only wanted one child.
But an embryologist under the doctor's supervision implanted two embryos in her uterus, resulting in the birth of non-identical twin girls.
The woman told the court that she and her female partner were devastated when they learned she was carrying twins, and even considered putting one of the babies up for adoption.
The couple, whose combined income exceeds $82,875, are seeking $329,000 to cover the costs of raising one of the girls, including private school fees. They also want more than $12,000 to compensate them for time off work and medical expenses.

Veterans Disarmament Act To Bar Vets From Owning Guns
Larry PrattSunday September 23, 2007
Hundreds of thousands of veterans -- from Vietnam through Operation Iraqi Freedom -- are at risk of being banned from buying firearms if legislation that is pending in Congress gets enacted.
How? The Veterans Disarmament Act -- which has already passed the House -- would place any veteran who has ever been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on the federal gun ban list.
This is exactly what President Bill Clinton did over seven years ago when his administration illegitimately added some 83,000 veterans into the National Criminal Information System (NICS system) -- prohibiting them from purchasing firearms, simply because of afflictions like PTSD.
The proposed ban is actually broader. Anyone who is diagnosed as being a tiny danger to himself or others would have his gun rights taken away ... forever. It is section 102((1)©(iv) in HR 2640 that provides for dumping raw medical records into the system. Those names -- like the 83,000 records mentioned above -- will then, by law, serve as the basis for gun banning....
By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman WASHINGTON, September 17, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) -
Kathy Saile, who once gave a speech on promoting liberalism at a conference held by a pro-abortion group, has been named Director of Domestic Policy for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
Previous to the appointment, Saile was Associate Director of Public Policy for Lutheran Services in America (USA), an organization that serves the extremely liberal Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), which recently declared that their "clergy" were free to participate in homosexual relationships.
In her official capacity as Associate Director of Public Policy for the group, Saile gave a speech at a conference held by the organization "WIN", which describes itself as "Washington's premier professional, political, and social network dedicated to empowering young, Democratic, pro-choice women." The topic of the discussion was "Did the Left Cede Heaven? The Intersection of Faith and Politics."
The summary of the conference given on WIN's website reads: "Throughout American history religion has shaped US politics. Recent history has focused on the efforts and effects of Conservative Christians in the Republican Party, but the Left continues to be a party of people of faith. This dinner will highlight the way liberal people of faith organize to further progressive causes."
LifeSiteNews has also confirmed that Lutheran Services in America supports abortion and has a policy of distributing birth control at clinics affiliated with the organization.
A request for a response from the USCCB's press spokesman, Sr. Mary Anne Walsh, was not answered at the time of publication.
(This is just more evidence that there can be very few who can claim invincible ignorance of the fact that the bogus ordo Vatican II "church" is not Catholic. Of course these bogus "bishops" claim she is pro-life now - come on...why would they even hire someone who previously worked in the same capacity for a false religion?)

Her Doctrine and Morals
Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost
23 September 2007
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in us all.
36 Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. 38 This is the greatest and the first commandment. 39 And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.
41 And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 Saying: What think you of Christ? whose son is he? They say to him: David's. 43 He saith to them: How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying: 44 The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool? 45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
46 And no man was able to answer him a word; neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
A doctor of the law put this question to our Lord: "Master which is the great commandment in the law?" He answered and said that the precept of charity is the greatest and first commandment. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind."
We must love God because He is infinitely lovable in Himself. Man is naturally attracted by the beautiful, the good, and the perfect, and to love it even when he derives no benefit from it. It is the nature of love to draw hearts together. Love is a natural inclination of the heart towards that which we consider to be good. In order to love God we must fill our souls with a conviction of His goodness, that He is infinite in every perfection, and then it is that our heart will be drawn towards Him.
We must further love God because He is infinitely good to us. It was His love that called us into existence. That we should enjoy our life and be happy here and hereafter is the reason why He created us. All created things from the greatest to the smallest, are an evidence of the love of God for us; everything calls upon us to love him. The sun, the moon and the stars cry out to us: "He created us for your sake, therefore love him." The goods of our life, health, food, clothes, dwelling, cry out to us: "We are gifts of God, therefore love him." The faculties of the soul, will, memory, and understanding, cry out to us: "We are gifts of God, therefore love Him." The angels say to us: "We are appointed by God to minister unto you; therefore love Him." "Let us love God, because God first hath loved us." (I John 4: 19)
Even more importantly, God's love redeemed us. "God so loved the world as to give His only begotten Son." Our first parents sinned and plunged themselves and their posterity into the greatest misery. When the angels fell from the mansions of bliss owing to their pride, they were irretrievably lost _ no redeemer was promised to them, no remedy provided for their relief, no means were granted whereby they could have recovered the grace which they had forfeited. But the case was quite different with us.
We must love God because without this love we can do nothing that is meritorious. St. Paul says: "If I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing." (1 Cor. 13: 3)
These are some of the motives which should move us to love God and to daily increase our love for Him. We should ever strive to let the love of God reign in our hearts, and let it be the vital principle of all our actions. Let us frequently look up to heaven and say: "O my God, I love Thee with my whole heart; and all that I do and suffer, I do and suffer for the love of Thee. In Thy love I wish to live and to die."

BAGHDAD - American convoys under the protection of Blackwater USA resumed on Friday, four days after the U.S. Embassy suspended all land travel by its diplomats and other civilian officials in response to the alleged killing of civilians by the security firm.
A top aide to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki had earlier conceded it may prove difficult for the Iraqi government to follow through on threats to expel Blackwater and other Western security contractors.
The aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation into Sunday's shooting was ongoing, said a way out of the Blackwater crisis could be the payment of compensation to victims' families and an agreement from all sides on a new set of rules for their operations in Iraq...
Big surprise there... When i was a kid there was a movie out called "RoboCop" - and the story was set in possible future in which the police of a major city were owned and operated by a private corporation that basically answered to no one. It seemed pretty far fetched back then - now - we have an entire Army that is controlled by a private corporation that answers to no one!
Don't be surprised either when Blackwater troops come marching in your hometown - they have already marched and murdered in America - for they patrolled the streets of New Orleans after Katrina!
Glamorous politician wants law to allow 7-year itch
By Madeline Chambers Fri Sep 21, 4:00 AM ET
BERLIN (Reuters) - Bavaria's most glamorous politician -- a flame-haired motorcyclist who helped bring down state premier Edmund Stoiber -- has shocked the Catholic state in Germany by suggesting marriage should last just 7 years.
Gabriele Pauli, who poses on her web site in motorcycle leathers, is standing for the leadership of Bavaria's Christian Social Union (CSU) -- sister party of Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) -- in a vote next week.
She told reporters at the launch of her campaign manifesto on Wednesday she wanted marriage to expire after seven years and accused the CSU, which promotes traditional family values, of nurturing ideals of marriage which are wide of the mark.
"The basic approach is wrong ... many marriages last just because people believe they are safe," she told reporters. "My suggestion is that marriages expire after seven years."
After that time, couples should either agree to extend their marriage or it should be automatically dissolved, she said.
Fifty-year-old Pauli, twice divorced, is a maverick intent on shaking up her male-dominated and mainly Catholic party which has dominated Bavarian politics since World War Two...

Coonan seeks to censor the Web
Karen Dearne September 20, 2007
THE Federal Police commissioner will have the power to block and ban websites believed to be crime or terrorism related under an internet censorship amendment bill introduced into Parliament today.
Communications Minister Senator Helen Coonan proposes to include terrorism and cyber-crime sites on ACMA's hit list
The bombshell web ban bill was tabled in the Senate at 9:58am, without prior notice.
Communications Minister Senator Helen Coonan proposes to expand the "black list" of internet addresses (URLs) currently maintained by the Australian Communications and Media
Authority (ACMA) to include terrorism and cyber-crime sites. At present, ACMA has the power to act against websites containing pornography or offensive content. Under the proposed amendment, Federal Police will inform ACMA of websites to be blocked, and the agency must then notify the relevant internet service providers. ISPs will be required to "take reasonable steps" to prevent users accessing the website or content. Australian Privacy Foundation chair
Roger Clarke expressed disbelief that "the government of any country in the free world could table a Bill of this kind". "Without warning, the Government, through Senator Coonan, is proposing to provide Federal Police with powers to censor the internet," Dr Clarke said...

Motorists in Colorado are expressing outrage over a weekend stunt in Gilpin County, about an hour's drive west of Denver, where highway checkpoints were set up so a private organization could ask for samples of blood and saliva.
"I don't think they're authorized to do what they're doing, and I view it as a gross violation of law-enforcement protocol," Roberto Sequeira, 51, told reporters for the Denver Post.
He said he and his wife were "detained" for about 15 minutes even after they protested they wanted to get home because of a sleepy child in their car.
Sheriff's officials were apologizing after they helped set up and run five separate checkpoints over the weekend.
They said workers for the Institute for Research and Evaluation were overly persistent in their demands of innocent travelers.
"It was like a telemarketer that you couldn't hang up on," Undersheriff John Bayne told the newspaper.
Sgt. Bob Enney said the deputies' assistance to the organization involved stopping motorists at the sites along Colorado Highway 119 for "surveys" on any drug or alcohol use. Surveyors also requested that motorists submit to breath, blood and saliva tests.
Enney said several hundred motorists were tested, and some later complained.
Sequeira said he repeatedly asked if the questioners were law enforcement officials and said he was not interested in participating in the study, but still was not given clearance to leave.
He told the newspaper that he and his family were approached by two researchers, and even after his repeated refusals, officials offered his wife, who was driving, $100 to get the couple to take part in a breath test.
"I think it's very dangerous," he told the newspaper. "Sometimes at checkpoints, unfortunate things happen."
PIRE spokeswoman Michelle Blackston told WND the deputies "did not stop" any drivers. "It was a voluntary survey. … Nobody approached them. There were signs saying that a survey was taking place. Nobody waved them down."
She said she was unaware whether the private organization reimbursed the county for the expense of having the deputies at the traffic sites. The organization's own researchers get the results of the work, she said.
Also to the newspaper, PIRE officials defended their actions. They said such statistics are important to gauge the impact of laws and enforcement policy. Their questions began over the summer and will continue at other locations around the nation through November, they said.
"We've been literally surveying thousands of people," John Lacey, of the Alcohol, Policy and Safety Research Center, said. It's through that organization PIRE is doing its research.
He said researchers push a few of those who initially refuse to participate to reconsider – even offering incentives.
"If we don't do that, the criticism will come out that we had so many who were refusers," Lacey told the newspaper.
Bayne said a similar study was done in the county several years ago, with no complaints, but he admitted last weekend's effort was aggressive.
"The people were too persistent," he told the Post. "Some people didn't feel it was voluntary."
Officials with the Colorado chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union said the fact that sheriff's deputies were on the scene, and surveyors wore blue jumpsuits, could have confused drivers.
Sequeira said his family was directed by sheriff's officials to pull over and he and his wife were greeted by "youthful, college" surveyors.
"We had a 10-year-old in the back who's tired, we tell them thanks but no thanks, we have to get this child back home to bed," he told the paper. But the workers persisted, telling them they would be provided help driving home if needed. Then they offered the $100.
"We say, 'No thank you, we have to get our child home,'" he recalled. "At this point, both clones start chortling at us and ridiculing us."
On a newspaper forum, the opinion was running fairly close to unison:
"The very act of pulling a motorist over subjects him/her and their vehicle (at very least) to a visual search. This means if the motorist was pulled over without suspicion of violating a law, than (sic) they have been subjected to an unlawful search…," wrote Warren Gregory.
"For the record the proper response to ANY such incursion into privacy is to ask the question, Am I under Arrest? If the answer is no ask if you are free to go. If you are told no demand to be arrested or you will leave and then leave," added Frank Vicek.

"I think he certainly ought to retract the remarks, and indicate he believes that he was inaccurate on the facts," Hoyer said Tuesday.

Steel shortage delays casino construction
By Jessica Armbruster
In early August, representatives from Sands BethWorks appeared before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to announce that the opening of the casino will be delayed from mid-2008 until early 2009.
The delay is caused by a lack of steel available to construct the casino complex.
The elaborate complex needs 16,000 tons of steel for construction.
According to The Morning Call, the opening of the $600 million complex will be pushed into 2009 because demolition crews are having a difficult time plowing down the buildings that once made up the Bethlehem Steel Mill.
The complex includes a casino with 3,000 slot machines, a 300-room hotel, a shopping mall and an events center.
The complex will also feature a monorail and a National Museum of Industrial History.
Construction of the casino is expected to receive more tax revenue than the former Bethlehem Steel and create many new jobs. (yea sure - and i bet they are jobs that can support a family like the steel mill jobs once did!)
The site of Bethlehem Steel has buildings that date back to the late 1800s...
Now let me get this straight - they are destroying a steel mill and putting up a casino in its place, but the construction of the casino is delayed because of a lack of steel!
What a country we live in!
Students Know Less After 4 College Years
Harvard Gets D+ on Civics Quiz
By ANNIE KARNIStaff Reporter of the SunSeptember 19, 2007
Students at many of the country's most prestigious colleges and universities are graduating with less knowledge of American history, government, and economics than they had as incoming freshmen, with Harvard University seniors scoring a "D+" average on a 60-question multiple-choice exam about civic literacy.
According to a report released yesterday by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, the average college senior at the 50 colleges and universities polled did not earn a passing grade.
"At the most expensive colleges, they actually graduate knowing less," the executive director of the Jack Miller Center at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, Michael Ratliff, said. "Colleges and universities are not directing students to the courses that would educate them. We want to know whether after getting $300 billion to do their work, universities are actually educating their students."
At universities such as Princeton, Yale, Cornell, Duke, and Berkeley, seniors scored lower on the test than freshmen, living proof of the broadening relevancy of the old Harvard adage that the university is a storehouse of knowledge because "the freshmen bring so much and the seniors take away so little."...
